I think our message of the stimulus was clear because we related all the sections of the choreography back to our theme of mental health and someone struggling with Dissociative Identity Disorder. That being said if I didn't know what DID was, I would struggle to understand the specific idea behind the stimulus however I would easily be able to relate the choreography back to the theme of mental health because there are several parts of the piece where we all move as one group which represents the brain.
A weakness of mine during this process has been picking up the choreography. Due to time management towards the end of the choreography lessons, we had to pick up the pace of teaching choreography- This was so we could have longer to perfect it and go over small details at the end. We decided that we should video what we did in each lesson so that the people who missed that lesson could learn the choreography before the next lesson to save time but also for people who needed to go over the choreography at home so it could stay in their brains and increase muscle memory. I would say that a strength of mine during this choreographic process is facial performance. At the beginning of the choreography, there is a piano trill- This is when we continuously break off individually to show the emotions we have picked in our improv solos. I was portraying the emotion of confusion and the way I showed this was by looking around the studio not knowing which way to go and also being confused about which arm to use.
From this choreographic process, I would say that I have developed my choreographic style because in the past when I have had to choreograph a dance I would choose a song I liked and think of some movements that would fit with the timing. However, from this new process of creating choreography, in the future, I am going to choose an image and annotate it as to what it could represent, what emotion should be portrayed and research into why it could represent what it does. Also with choosing a piece of music I am going to choose one that is more my style because then I can express myself more if it's relatable to me.
Overall, I think this was a great first experience with choreography because we all agreed on the song and we have a mixture of styles that showcase different people's talents and also show dynamics from the music into the dance.
