Structure of the stimulus

The music for our choreography piece is called “Bloodstream” by Tokio Myers. This piece of music was suggested by another member of the group. I think the music fits perfectly with the theme of creating awareness for mental health because there are a lot of different sections in the music where there is a change in dynamics and chords. This helps highlight the everyday struggles that a person with DID has to go through. We listened to the music and allocated each different section to people. They then created an idea of what the music would represent and what emotion would be shown.

Section 1- Piano melody, group- For this section everyone is all together representing the brain.

Section2- Piano trill- This is when we continuously brake off individually to show the emotions we have picked in our solos. I am confusion and the way I am going to portray that is by doing a movement and through my face think that I have the wrong arm.

Section 3- Change in chords, nostalgic- This section of the music is very calm which will help show the nostalgia in the memory of the brain.

Section 4- Bad memory, mine and Ell’s task- There is a change in key to represent a bad memory, we came up with the idea of abuse and neglect and have created a short cannon of movements.

Section 5- Music builds, team A & team B get into places to mirror- I think this section shows the confusion of what emotions go on side A and side B

Section 6- Trill, preparation for big fight- Ell has created this choreography and I really like how there is a turn where each person shows there different emotions

Section 7- Massive change in music, big fight- This is a good point for a massive collision between team A and B

Section 8- Short pause, realisation- This is a moment where we all pause to show the audience that something is wrong

Section 9- Very busy, urgent treatment- I think in this section movements should be emphasised to make it more obvious that people with mental health problems need assistance

Section 10- The group comes back together- This is to show the two personalities coming back to one brain

Section 11- Fade- The fade is to show that people with DID who haven’t been given assistance have to get on with modern day society in the “normal” life

Section 12- The beginning section is repeated- I think this section being repeated shows that the personality clashes are repeated all the time in a persons brain with DID

  1. Hi Sylvia, I love the fact that you have stated the different sections of the music and how it links back to the theme, but what process did you go through to get to this?

  2. Hi Sylvia, this blog is amazing, and I like the fact that you included all the different sections of the music, but what got you to this point, how did the group come to those decisions?

  3. Hello Sylvia. Fantastic work on clearly showing the different sections that will occur in the group piece. Make sure you state how the music got divided into sections and how you decided on who is doing which bit.

  4. Where you say that the music shows the struggle of living with mental health maybe you could evidence this in some way by giving an example of how it represents this. You clearly show the different sections of the choreography. You have for the most part said what each section represents but make sure you do this throughout so that the reader is informed.
